Building Alliances - Spider Mini Boss Modelling Process

Image
This is where I'll be documenting my modelling process for the spider mini boss I'm making. I decided to use maya as I think it's better for modelling hard surface models. This also gives me the opportunity to better understand how to use Maya for future projects. Modelling Process Beginning To start off with, I need to make sure the scale of my model is correct for when we import it into unreal engine. For this, I altered the grid display settings. A key thing I need to remember is that my model must be centred on the grid correctly so I can import it into Unreal with no issues. To further assist me with correct scaling, I went into my groups shared onedrive and retrieved the base mesh Holly created for their merchant character. I have imported this into my maya scene and will use it as a reference to make sure my mini boss is the correct size. I then created a cylinder to function as the spider's main body. I turned on round caps and altered the subdivisions caps and ...

Industry Practice - Workshop Meeting/ Plans Over Christmas (13/12/24)

Date: 13/12/24 In Attendance: Me, Sam, Faye, Katie Meeting Agenda & My Role: To discuss assets, the script and plans over Christmas. Decisions and/or Actions & Deadlines: We made the decision to get rid of the 'neutral ending' we originally planned as we felt it wasn't necessary and this will help lessen the work load. We discussed what happens in each ending with the therapist befriending and continuing to assist the patients in the good ending, and the patients leaving in the bad ending. We will have the patients expressions reflect the ending the player is currently working towards (this is to help the players realise how much of an impact their words can have on an individual). We all agreed to have a meeting over Christmas to update Jake with the decisions we've made and to get his input. For the script, we discussed having two general questions that all patients will answer as well as a more specific question. We made a few changes to our asset list to ...

Building Alliance - Plans Over Christmas (12/12/24)

We have all felt a little overwhelmed and found it hard to schedule to schedule meeting recently so we decided that we'd have one during lesson. We were all in attendance aside from Sasha who we'll be sure to keep updated. We spent this meeting mainly discussing our 3D assets and what we plan to accomplish over the Christmas break. We had a brief discussion about scaling in which Holly had said she'd created a base mesh for their merchant in Maya to make sure it's scaled correctly. She said she imported it in both unreal and Zbrush to check the scaling and it all seemed to be ok. She has put the base mesh into OneDrive and if anyone wants to use it for scaling they can do. We still plan on experimenting with shaders in unreal to show off each character model. None of us are particularly experienced in Unreal however, we are all willing to put in the effort and research to make it work. Holly has already linked some resources in our group discord to help us with this. Si...

3D Toolkit - Workshop (09/12/24)

Subtool and Mirror There is a basic heads folder in the project menu that shows the planes of the face. This can save you a lot of time when you're creating a head from a sphere Another way of adding geometry in is via the subtool using Subtool > Append This allows you to add basic geometry like a sphere and you can now find this sphere in the subtool menu. Unfortunately, symmetry can't be used to create another sphere. So instead we can use the mirror tool. Make sure you have the subtool you want to mirror selected and then do Zplugin > Subtool Master > Mirror Workshop I took this time to finish off the blogs regarding ZRemesher. I unfortunately forgot to save the model I did for this initially so I created a different model quickly to ZRemesh which can be found in this blog here.   Formative 1: Celestial Mage Research First of all, to help me get ideas for this prompt, I created a pinterest boards to gather references. This can be found here. Mood Board Other Influen...

3D Toolkit - ZRemesher (09/12/24)

ZRemesher Process I decided to model a simplified version of Isha's hat from arcane to then remesh.  Isha (Arcane, 2021) First, I created a sphere and then used the TrimRect brush to cut it and create the basic shape of the hat. I originally planned to add a cylinder in and use the transpose tools to create the brim but I struggled to centre it and opted to use a better method that I had remembered about that utilised masking instead of subtools. I used the mask tool and then inverted the mask. I then later used the transpose tools to create the brim of the hat. Using the transpose tools, I created the brim of the hat. I then used Subtool > Append to add a cylinder to my subtool. In the screenshot I also included the menu to help me find the mirror tool. Here I mirrored the other goggle lens and then merged all the subtools together so I could remesh them. I then used masking and the transpose tools to create the belt that attached the goggles to the hat. Finally, I applie...
