Subtool and Mirror

There is a basic heads folder in the project menu that shows the planes of the face. This can save you a lot of time when you're creating a head from a sphere

Another way of adding geometry in is via the subtool using

  • Subtool > Append
This allows you to add basic geometry like a sphere and you can now find this sphere in the subtool menu. Unfortunately, symmetry can't be used to create another sphere. So instead we can use the mirror tool. Make sure you have the subtool you want to mirror selected and then do
  • Zplugin > Subtool Master > Mirror

Workshop

I took this time to finish off the blogs regarding ZRemesher. I unfortunately forgot to save the model I did for this initially so I created a different model quickly to ZRemesh which can be found in this blog here.

Other Influences

One of my biggest influences for this formative, was Arcane (2021). The new season had recently come out featuring a lot of amazing and beautiful character designs. The designs that I was inspired by for this project, was Viktor, Mel and Leblanc.

These designed inspired me for different reasons. All the character above are by definition, a mage (a person who has magic powers). For Mel, her golden tattoos and physique inspired me. Mages aren't supposed to be muscular as their main source of attack is magic and not strength based. Her tattoos really help make her stand out and elude to her power. She also is wearing revealing clothes which are common in mages in media due to them fighting from a distance rather than up close. Leblanc and Viktor show more mysterious and even monstrous forms. They're still humanoid but have the appearance of something otherworldly which I hope to explore in my thumbnails.

3D Toolkit - Renders, Turntable and Unreal Implementation

Turntable Here is a link to my turntable on Sketchfab:  https://skfb.ly/pxnUY Unfortunately, the texture for the mask on the belt just wouldn't work. It wasn't assigning correctly onto the model despite being completely fine in both Maya and Unreal. I was unable to resolve this issue so I left it with a basic white colour. Renders For some reason, during my renders, the textures broke and I wasn't entirely sure how to fix it. I think it might've been to do with the materials of my assets. I tried changing them but it broke the textures even more.  Unreal Implementation I implemented my character into unreal to see how they looked. They had been scaled a little too big, so in Maya I went back and made them smaller.
