Building Alliance - Plans Over Christmas (12/12/24)

We have all felt a little overwhelmed and found it hard to schedule to schedule meeting recently so we decided that we'd have one during lesson. We were all in attendance aside from Sasha who we'll be sure to keep updated.

We spent this meeting mainly discussing our 3D assets and what we plan to accomplish over the Christmas break. We had a brief discussion about scaling in which Holly had said she'd created a base mesh for their merchant in Maya to make sure it's scaled correctly. She said she imported it in both unreal and Zbrush to check the scaling and it all seemed to be ok. She has put the base mesh into OneDrive and if anyone wants to use it for scaling they can do.

We still plan on experimenting with shaders in unreal to show off each character model. None of us are particularly experienced in Unreal however, we are all willing to put in the effort and research to make it work. Holly has already linked some resources in our group discord to help us with this.

Since we haven't had a meeting in a while, we took this opportunity to discuss where we are all at in terms of work and what we plan to do over Christmas. I let my team know that I am currently behind on schedule however, I am confident that I can catch up over Christmas. We discussed having regular check ups on how we are doing each week. Here is my personal checklist on what I hope to complete over Christmas.

Christmas Personal Goals/ Checklist:
  • Catch up on blogs and make sure they're all referenced
  • Finish character sheet and get feedback
  • Character colour blocks and feedback
  • More environment thumbnails and feedback
  • 3D Model/ textures/ process and feedback (PRIORITY)
  • 2D environment painting of Junkyard (Does not have to be done over Christmas but should at least try to start it)
I brought up the topic of textures to ensure we were all on the same page on what we are expected to do. The Scavengers Reign style we are aiming for is quite simple and we discussed using flat coloured textures with drawn on details for scuff, wrinkles etc. Holly mentioned the 3D models in Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo, 2017) could be used as a reference as they're also made in a similar simple style. To familiarise myself with this style I looked up some models and came across a Sketchfab with a simple model of Link on it. I showed my teammates this model and asked if it was similar to what we wanted so we all agreed to use it as a reference. I linked it in the 3D chat on our discord so we could all access it with ease as well as including some explanation for Sasha.
