Industry Practice - Legal Considerations Slide
As part of our presentation, I was put in charge of the legal considerations slide. I wasn't entirely sure what this entailed so I spoke to my lecturer, Rachel. She reminded me that the presentation doesn't have to be perfect nor does it need to include everything in the guidelines. We might not have thought about everything listed and it's ok to discuss what we plan to do especially when it comes to topics we haven't discussed much.
So far, the legal considerations is one of the areas we've discussed the least. A lot of the guidelines for this are on topics we haven't made any concrete decisions but I have included some of our suggestions.
Here are our suggestions:
Font – We haven’t had too much discussion on the fonts we would like to use. We thought about doing some research into fonts commonly used in visual novels and making a list of ones that caught our eyes. Once we’ve made this list, we will investigate the copyright law surrounding these fonts.
Background Music – We discussed using Beepbox to create some background music for our game. This is because Beepbox doesn’t claim ownership over songs created and we therefore won’t have any issues with copyright.
Drawing Software and Brushes – We plan to use our own individual drawing software which consists of Medibang, Firealpaca, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Ibispaint X and Photoshop. We only use the default brushes in these programs so we will only need to research the copyright surrounding the software.
Legal and Ethical Considerations on Mental Health – We plan to do a lot of research into the law on Mental health, especially on patient confidentiality, and the Mental Health Act in 1983. We will investigate the four main ethical principles in mental health which are autonomy, non–maleficence, beneficence and justice (Mark Shelvock, 2023).
Contracts – We discussed the possibility of drafting contracts such as a non-disclosure agreement.
