Building Alliance - Formative Submission Talk and Next Steps Discussion (17/10/24)

We first started off this session by listening to our teacher inform us of the formative submission and what we are expected to include in the presentation. I've made notes below for myself and my team to refer back to when we plan our presentation.

Formative Submission (28/10/24)

Deliver a short presentation and below is what is expected to see in the presentations:

  • THE GAME - An elevator pitch of the plot and core mechanics (DON'T WRITE A NOVEL).
  • Research - A brief outline of the research you've undertaken to establish this idea. Explain how this research and overall idea fits the theme you've chosen.
  • Studio - Who's who and what are you're responsibilities.
  • Art - How would you describe your aesthetic approach? Might include some research/ mood boards here. Discuss audience and art directions. Include some sketches/ work done to date.
  • Next steps - where is your project going over the following weeks.

Next Steps Discussion

Unfortunately, our director and lead researcher were unable to attend this session so we made notes on what we discussed so they don't miss out and fall behind.

Characters

Me, Nathan and Holly discussed that we wanted to complete this part of the project as quickly as possible so we can make a start on the environment and 3D work ASAP. We are very aware of how little time we have on this project and we want to make sure we're ahead so we don't face the stress of falling behind.

As the Lead Character Artist, I decided to make some notes in the discord about what we've discussed and what steps we are planning to take for Evie and Sasha. I then took the time to set some deadlines based on this discussion on the Miro board.

Notes from me, Holly and Nathan on our next steps.

The green sticky notes are the deadlines I've set for this week and next week.

Environment

We want to move on from the character thumbnails and discussion as quickly as possible so we started discussing the steps we want to take in terms of our environments. We haven't set any deadlines yet but we have what we believe to be some good ideas on how to start this section.

Nathan suggested using a show called Scavengers reign as the main inspiration for the art style and aesthetics in our game a few weeks ago. We were all in agreement as we liked the style and we were all down to try out the style. Today, we built on this idea more and discussed the possibility of making a word document in our OneDrive that we could all contribute to. Since this show is our main focus of inspiration, we talked about doing a case study on it and splitting the research between us. We then discussed doing a quick drawing (that doesn't have to be related to the project) in the style of this show to help us get comfortable with the techniques and methods. We then said that everyone should make their own blogger post talking about their experiences and showing their art so we can as a group give feedback on what we can improve. Again as Sasha and Evie weren't able to attend this session, I made some notes regarding our next steps. Nathan also helpfully told us were we could watch the show.
